This temple is hundreds of years old. According to legends, it was the deity worshipped by a brahmin family. When no member of that family was left alive, only a base around a banyan tree and some stone lamps remained. An elder of the Annal family, which had been suffering from terminal diseases and untimely deaths, realised the presence of an effulgence under the banyan tree. He started worshipping that effulgence. When they felt the beneficial effects of the Devi’s blessings, they built a small structure and celebrated the goddess's festival once a year. more Pattu was also performed. With the help of the members of the family and the local people, a temple was built and the Goddess was consecrated here. Ganapathy, Sivan, Naga, Manthramoorthy, Yogeeswaran, Brahmarakshass, Yakshiyamma and Madan Thampuran are the subordinate deities.
