This ancient temple is at Rayamangalam near Kothamangalam, around 36km away from Ernakulam. It is believed to be 2000 years old. The architecture with the round sanctum is very ancient and rare in Kerala. Lord Mahavishnu is consecrated as Narasimhamoorthy, facing the east in this sanctum. It is said that in ancient times, the water in the temple pond would turn blue on a particular day. When astrological consultations were held, it was advised to dry the pond. On doing so, a blue idol of Lord Krishna was found and this was consecrated on the western side of the pond. That is why the temple
more is named Neelamkulangara, meaning on the shore of the blue pond. The Iringol Bhagavthy is considered the sister of Neelamkulangara Sreekrishna. Therefore, anyone who visits one of the temples to worship there must also visit the other. Till some 55 years ago, the festival of this temple was conducted with due fervour in the month of Kumbham. Then it had to be stopped. This led to the neglect of the temple, also. Later, the local people took up the management of the temple and started the renovations. Dharma Shasthaav, Ganapathy and Serpents are the subordinate deities. The depiction of the ten incarnations of Vishnu using sandalwood paste (Dashavathaaram) that is conducted here from the 1st of Dhanu is very famous.
