Maniyoor Subrahmanya Swamy Temple

History

Maniyoor Sree Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is situated in Chekkikulam, in the Kannur district of Kerala. Believed to date back to the 11th century, the exact origins of the temple remain unclear. However, certain architectural elements, especially the pranaalam (water spout) and the standing idol of Lord Subrahmanya, exhibit clear influences of Chola-era design. It is said that a revered sage originally consecrated the idol, although no specific legend is associated with this act. Historically, the temple was under the ownership of the Maanaatt and Kannambetti illams (Brahmin households). In 1965, due to financial constraints, the ownership was transferred to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department. more Today, the temple is managed by a Temple Committee appointed by the HR&CE Department, continuing its legacy as a place of spiritual significance and cultural heritage.
