Located in Cherukode, Palakkad, the Mahadevapanthal Siva Temple is one of Kerala's ancient and revered temples, believed to be over 5000 years old. Known for its grand architecture and historical significance, the temple is unique in having Nandi inside the sanctum sanctorum. According to legend, a Yogi who attained enlightenment built a thatched shelter here and installed a Shiva Linga for worship. The temple was later developed by prominent local families. Presiding deity, Lord Mahadeva, is a Swayambhu (self-manifested) form of Shiva in deep meditation. Though rituals ceased for a time due to financial decline, the temple was revived 50 years ago by local efforts and has
more since remained active in worship.
