The temple is situated near the Thiruvambady Sree Krishna Swamy temple in Thrissur. It is believed that Divan Peshkar of Cochin, Sri. Sankara Iyer discovered an idol of Ganapathy from a pond nearby when he was on an official visit to Trichur. He installed it below a banyan tree behind the Thiruvambady temple. A small temple was built near the tree and an idol was installed there. At first, only the daily pujas were conducted there. It was in 1942 that the members of the community decided to celebrate Vinayaka Chathurthi, more Painkuni Uthram, Sree Rama Navami and 11 days of Maharudram during the Navarathri. The Maharudram was a prayer for relief from the troubles caused by the Second World War and the Quit India Movement. The temple is run by the Parvathy Shankara Maha Ganapathy Parishad formed by the members of the community. The South Manavar family of Naikanal donated the place for the Kalyanamandapam while T.V.S.Mani Iyer gave the place for the dining hall.
