Located in Poovathussery,
Thrissur district of Kerala, the Poovathussery Durga Temple, also known as the
Poovathussery Karthyayani Temple, is dedicated to Goddess Karthyayani, a fierce
form of the Mother Goddess. This temple is one among the revered 108 Durga
temples in Kerala. The presiding deity, a nearly 6-foot-tall idol of the
Goddess, faces east (darshanam). The murti is in a chaturbahu (four-armed)
form, holding the Shankh (conch) and Chakra (discus), symbolising divine power
and protection. Historically, this temple served as the grama kshetram (village
temple) of Adoor village, a once prominent Namboothiri settlement in
ancient times.
