Sreekrishna Swami Temple Chozhiyakkadu

History

Located near Channanikadu in Kottayam, the Sreekrishna Swami Temple at Chozhiyakkadu has a rich and ancient legend. Over a thousand years ago, the area was densely populated by forest until Brahmin families settled there. A saintly Brahmin from Pulickal Illom discovered a radiant Krishna idol in the Kodoor River during a pilgrimage and began worshipping it. As the idol's divine presence grew, Lord Krishna appeared in a dream and instructed the Brahmin to install it in a forest clearing blessed by Goddess Bhagavathy. During the installation, the idol was anointed with milk by the celestial cow Kamadhenu. This sacred spot became known as Chozhiyakkadu. Today, the more temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna (Chozhiyakkattappan), with offerings of fresh milk and Palppayasam. It also houses shrines for Goddess Bhagavathy and Lord Shiva, and daily rituals preserve the temple's divine energy.
