This temple is at Ponad at
Karoor in Kottayam district. It is more than a thousand years old. It is just
100m from the Pala- Chakkampuzha- Ramapuram route. The temple stands on
land measuring up to 1 acre and 80 cents. There is a Gopram on the main road.
In the beginning, only Goddess Bhadrakali was consecrated in a sanctum. In
the astrological consultation held in 1995, it was seen that Goddess Bhadra and
Goddess Durga were to be consecrated with equal importance in two sancta in the
same premises. So, a new temple was built with two sancta facing east and
equipped with a surrounding
more
wall and an anapanthal. Subordinate deities are
Moolapithru, Chamundi, Rakshass, Serpent and Yakshi. There are two ponds in the
temple. Onam, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Aayilya Sarppa Pooja in the month of Kanni,
Navarathri, Kalamezhuthu Pattu during Mandala period in Vrischikam, culminating
with Guruthy, are observed. A festival of three days, Aswathy, Bharani and
Karthika in the month of Meenam is
celebrated with Pongala on the first day, Kalam karikkal on the first and
second days, and Choottu padayani on the day of star Bharani. The day of
consecration is on the star Uthram in the month of Mithunam. Special offerings like
Vattaka guruthy, Ganapathy homam, Katum payasam, Itichu pizhinja arunazi
payasam are offered apart from the common ones. The temple is managed by Ponad
Devi Vilasam NSS Karayogam No.844.
