History

Kiliroor Kunninmel Devi Temple is a revered shrine in the village of Thiruvarpu in Kottayam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, whose idol faces west—a rare and auspicious orientation in temple architecture. The temple is situated atop a scenic hill spanning approximately 5 acres, offering a serene and elevated setting for worship. A prominent temple feature is its gold-plated flag post, adding to its spiritual and visual grandeur. The annual eight-day festival is celebrated with devotion and grandeur, culminating in the Arattu ceremony on the day of Pooram nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam. Historically, the temple was under the stewardship of Vettikulangara more Kaimal and Palliyil Menon, and later came under the rule of the Thekkumkoor royal family, reflecting its cultural and historical significance in the region.
