Located in Perumparamba near
Edappal in Malappuram district, the Mookambika Temple is one of the 108 Siva
temples of Kerala, believed to have been consecrated by sage Parasurama.
Situated about 3 km from Edappal along the Edappal–Parappuram–Ayankalam Road,
the temple holds deep spiritual significance. According to legend, it was
established by nine occult yogis. Another tale tells of sage Markandeya, who,
while fleeing from Yama, was guided by the deity at Nava Mukunda temple to
install and worship a Shiva Linga here. Devotees regard the temple as sacred as
Varanasi, and the nearby river is especially revered for performing Pithru
Karmas (ancestral rites).
