This
is situated at Nedumkunnam in the Kottayam district. Legends say that the
Goddess came with the Brahmin of the Padappa mana from the north of Kerala
during the invasion of Kerala by Tippu Sultan. There were some other families
who too were involved in the duties of the temple. It is said that there were
two trees one Kanjiram (Strychnos nux-vomica,) and Koovalam (Bael) at the place
where the temple stands today. The temple pond that exists today was made later
for the Aaraattu (Ceremonial bathing) of the Goddess. Now
more
a new pond has been
made near the Shastha temple.
