Ulavaipu Mahadeva Temple, also known as Olavaipu Mahadeva Temple, is located in Thaikkattussery village along the Cherthala–Arookutty road in Alappuzha district. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Siva, who is believed to be Swayambhu—self-manifested. The main deity faces east, as per traditional temple architecture. The temple celebrates an 8-day annual festival, which concludes with the arattu (ritual bath of the deity) on Thiruvathira nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Dhanu. The festival is marked with devotion and various traditional rituals, drawing devotees from the surrounding areas. Historically, the temple was owned and managed by the Pazhoor Padunthol family. Today, it is maintained by a committee formed by more style="font-size: 14px;">residents, reflecting the community’s commitment to preserving its spiritual heritage. One of the unique offerings at the temple involves donating coconut saplings and ropes made from coconut fibre. This is believed to be a special ritual that helps cure ailments related to the respiratory system, making it a place of faith and healing for many.
