Vadakkumkara Devi Temple, also
known as Cherthala Sree Bhadra Vilasam Vadakkumkara Temple, is situated in the
peaceful village of Vadakkumkara in the Thycattussery Block of Alappuzha
district, Kerala. The village falls under the Chennampallipuram Panchayath in
the South Kerala Division. It is located approximately 30 kilometres north of
the Alappuzha district headquarters, about 11 kilometres from Thycattussery,
and around 178 kilometres from the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram. This
serene temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and holds significant
spiritual value for the local community. Though modest in size, the temple
features a traditional square sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) and includes upa
devatas (sub-deities) as well as a kodimaram (flagstaff). Two
more
major festivals
are celebrated annually at the temple, both during the Malayalam month of
Makaram. The first is the Pratishta Mahotsavam, commemorating the installation
of the deity, and the second is the vibrant Pooram festival, which attracts
devotees from the surrounding regions. Despite its simplicity, the temple
radiates a deep spiritual energy and continues to be a cherished place of worship
for devotees in and around Vadakkumkara.
