Kattakambal Temple Kunnamkulam

History

This temple is at Kunnamkulam in Thrissur. Kattakambal was at the northwestern border of the erstwhile Kochi State. It was like a peninsula with water bodies on three sides. This temple is mentioned as one of the 108 Siva temples consecrated in Kerala by Lord Parasurama. So, it is centuries old. The place where the temple stands today was covered with dense forest in ancient times. One of the forest dwellers saw a cow allowing the milk from her under to fall on a rock. The man informed the local ruler about it. Realising the presence of the divine on the rock, the ruler built a more temple there.
