As per local belief, the Goddess at Aroor Puthu Varanadu and Pallipuram Kadavil Sree Mahalakshmi are sisters of Varanadu Devi. Puthuvaranadu Bhadrakali temple was the family temple of the Aroor Chiramel Kambakaran family. The idol is one of the biggest consecrated in Kerala. It is similar to the one at Dakshineswar, Kolkotta. A huge banyan tree and the presence of Ganapathy there mark the temple. The festival at this temple was formerly celebrated by all the people here. More than 100 acres of land in the temple had been given to tenants for cultivation. They would bring bunches of bananas to the temple as offerings to
more Devi during the festival. This would be hung in the temple grounds and those who came to see the festival could take the fruits from there.
