Palakulangara Sree Dharmasastha Temple

History

This temple is at Palakulangara, in Taliparamba of Kannur district. It is believed to be very old even though no records are available to show it. First, the Lord was worshipped as Vana Shastha. Later a temple was built and the idol of Lord Ayyappa was consecrated in the sanctum. Lord Dharmashastha was worshipped by the Dravidians, Buddhists and the Hindus. It is believed that Parasurama brought Dharmashastha to Kerala for its protection. Dharmashastha is consecrated in many forms. In Palakulangara the Lord is consecrated as seated in Padmasana. The temple is under the Malabar Devaswom Board. Re-consecration was performed in April 1998. The Festival with more special Thidambu Nrutham was started in December 1998. All renovations were carried out with the support of the local people. The foundation stone for a Navagraha temple has been laid in 2002.
