Located in Pillayar, Kannur district, Sree Kamakshi Amman Kovil is a revered temple believed to be over 700 years old. The temple was originally worshipped with Sankalpa Prathishta as Thrisoolam and later became a centre of devotion to Sri Kamakshi Amman. According to legend, a divine saint—whom devotees now revere as Guru—discovered this sacred site during his spiritual journey. Recognizing its sanctity, he chose to settle here, performing rituals and poojas. It is believed that the Guru attained ultimate spiritual realization and continues to reside within the temple's divine energy. Hence, temple worship and developments are carried out according to his guidance and blessings. The presiding deity,
more Sri Kamakshi Amman, is worshipped in her Santha Swaroopini (peaceful) form. The temple follows Uttama Trikala Poojas under the guidance of learned priests. Devotees seek her blessings for health, marriage, children, and prosperity. In 1986, the temple underwent a major renovation, with the Sanctum Sanctorum (Sreekovil) being reconstructed using intricately carved granite. The work was carried out under the expert supervision of renowned temple architect Swatharanyam Sthapathi from Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, ensuring adherence to traditional tantric rites.
