Anandavalleeswaram Devi Temple, also known as Mannanthala Devi Temple, is located in Mannanthala, Thiruvananthapuram. The temple’s presiding deity is Ardhanariswara a unique form combining Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This temple holds historical and spiritual significance as it is the second temple in Kerala where Sree Narayana Guru performed the pratishta (consecration) in 1888. Situated approximately 73.72 meters above sea level, the temple is easily accessible, located along the main road one bus stop past Mannanthala junction when travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Kottayam via MC Road. Its distinctive North Indian architectural style and a prominent banyan tree near the premises make it easy to identify. In earlier times,
more the temple was dedicated to the worship of Bhadrakali, and animal sacrifices were a common ritual. When Sree Narayana Guru visited the temple, he strongly opposed these practices and successfully put an end to the animal sacrifices. Following this, Guru performed a new Pratishta his second after the famous Aruvippuram consecration. He instructed the chief priest to worship the deity Sree Parvathy, transforming the temple’s spiritual practices. Sree Narayana Guru also composed a hymn in praise of the Goddess, known as "Mannanthala Devi Stavam". Since then, the deity has been venerated as Sree Parvathy. The temple is managed by a dedicated trust under the supervision of the SNDP Yogam, ensuring the continuation of its traditions and spiritual activities.
