This temple is at Perumalpadi, Elankunnapuzha in Vypeen Island of Ernakulam district. Around 300 years ago there was a Namboothiri residence here where the senior member was devoted to Sree Durga Devi. Along with that were the Serpents in the area surrounded by ponds and canals. The eldest member of the Thottungal family used to worship Sree Vishnumaya Chathan on the banks of the canal. After the death of this man, the family deteriorated and there was nobody to look after the deities. Three women saw the presence of Vishnumaya Chathan as fire on the tamarind tree on the southwest corner of the temple compound. They
more informed the people of the Thottunkal family about it. The members of the family also saw a golden serpent and the presence of Vishnumaya Chathan on many occasions. So, they started worshipping Devi and Chathan inside the house. The Brahmin whose presence was felt in the house was consecrated as Brahmarakshass in front of the house. In 1168 Malayalam Era, the re-consecration of Bhadrakali, Vishnumaya Chathan, and the other deities was conducted. The temple was renovated with the Goddess and Chathan Swamy facing the sea on the west in 1192.
