This historically important temple is at Chathanoor in Meenachil village in Kollam district. This is believed to have been constructed in the 13th century. The magnificent circular structure is awe-inspiring. The main deity enshrined here is Lord Siva. There is a Vattezhutu inscription dated 1237. This inscription on the base of the sanctum known as Chathanoor Shasanam says that the construction of the temple began in 446 Kollavarsham (1271) and was completed in 448 (1273) The construction was carried out under the guidance of Chathanoor Variyan Devan Uzhuthiran. more time). Koyilpally Shankaran Chathan was in charge of the construction. This ancient Siva temple has circular ekathala Alpavimana. It is of the Sandhara type. Two armed Dwarapalakas in stone work are seen on the flanks of the main door entrance. The Balipita is in the open outside the Prakara door on the eastern side. It is a unitary temple but with an interesting array of Kostha devatas on the wall of Gavakshas. (windows). The windows are set within the pilastered divisions on the wall. It is an early medieval Kerala-type temple. The landlords of Mampily Matam were looking after the temple in the ancient days. Now it is under Mampalikunnu NSS Karayogam.
