This temple is at Thekkumbad, on Ezhilode -Kunhimangalam road in Kannur district. This Veera Chamundeswari Devasthanam is at the foothills of Ezhimala. According to legends, when Chirakkal Thampuran was ruling the land, his soldiers defeated the soldiers of Kunhimeloth and captured the Kunhimelom Illam. A mother and son who were left there immolated themselves to escape from the Thampuran. The mother came out from the fire as Goddess Parvathy and the son as Lord Vettekkorumakan. The two deities set forth to destroy Chirakkal Thampuran. On the way, they were met by Maataayikavil Bhagavathy. She pacified the deities and made the Chirakkal Thampuran aware of their anger through
more some signs. On astrological consultation, Thampuran came to know of the anger of the Goddess and was instructed to build a temple for the Goddess. So, the temple was built at Kunhimangalam. Vettekkorumakan was consecrated outside the temple premises.
