This is the only temple in Muvattupuzha Taluk with Lord Ayyappa as the Presiding Deity. The temple, facing west, is situated in the heart of Muvattupuzha, south of the Triveni Samgamam, on the eastern side of Thodupuzhayar. Malikapuram, Siva, Ganapathy, Durga and Bhadra are the sub-deities of the temple. Apart from these Gandharva and Nagas are also consecrated here. There is a temple for the Navagrahas close to this. The origin of the temple is connected with Shri Narayana Pillai who was a keen devotee of Lord Ayyappa, whom he worshipped every year by Sabarimala Pilgrimage. But as years passed, due to age-related disabilities he became unable
more to do the pilgrimage, which caused him mental suffering. But one night Sree Dharma Sastha came in his dream and told him to make a place to worship Dharma Sastha near his house and promised his divine presence there. So, Shri Narayana Pillai built a small temple for Dharma Sastha there and began worshipping. His successors followed his path and made an idol for Dharma Sastha, which is still used. As years passed, difficulties came up in doing daily pooja and worship in the temple, which resulted in blurring in the divine presence of Lord Ayyappa. His devotees started to suffer on this matter which made them decide to rebuild the temple. In 1997, on discussion with the successors of Shri Narayana Pillai, some of the devotees formed a temple trust under the leadership of Shri Gopinathan Nair Athrasseril. Shri Gopinathan Nair along with the temple trust members started rebuilding the temple, with the help of funding from the native devotees. They made the temple into the state we see now, through step-by-step developments. The main festival in the temple is Makara Vilakku. It is celebrated over three days. Guruthy is offered to Bhagavathy on the 7th day after Makara Vilakku. Special offerings in the temple include Neelanjanam, Sani Pooja and Maha Ganapathy Homam. On the star Uthram, the birth star of Swami Ayyappa, every month, Akhandanamajapam as well as Prasada Oottu (continuous recital of prayers and distribution of food) are conducted. Ashtabhishekham is performed every day from the 1st of Vrischikam till Makara Vilakku. On the star Ashwathy in the month of Kumbham, special poojas with Thalapoli are offered to the Malikapuram Bhagavathy. Every month on the star Ayilyam, Sarpa Pooja is conducted. Navagraha Pooja and Sani Pooja are conducted in the Navagraha temple. Navadhanya Para and Navadhanya Thiri are also offered here. The temple is managed by a trust formed by the devotees.
