Kalambukavu Devi Temple

History

This temple is at Piravam in Ernakulam district. Around 220 years ago a girl from Chalapurm, a prominent family of Mulakulam was brought to the Laalam Kalapuraykkal family of Pala after marriage. A house was built for her with a small temple near it where, the Goddess, the ancestral deity of the Chalapuram family was consecrated in a sword and an anklet. The subordinate deities were consecrated and a palm tree was planted for consecrating Yakshi. That palm tree is still there in the temple compound. Till about 60 years ago, the temple was looked after and pujas conducted. But then it was neglected and the more temple also was left to ruin except for the floor. The younger members of the family and the local people then decided to renovate the temple. The new sanctum was opened in February 2004. Now pujas are offered every first day of the Malayalam month. Special pujas can be arranged on the 1st of every month of the English calendar.
