Kapperukavu Bagavathy Temple

History

This temple is on the southern banks of the Poorna River at Onampilly, Kalady in Ernakulam district. The summer residence of the Travancore Royal family was near this place. This place is today known as Kottapadi.  Kapperukavilamma was the deity worshipped by the royal family. When the rule by the royalty ended the temple was left neglected. Legend says that the Goddess rested under a Kanjiram tree in the forest here after killing Darika. The self-originated idol of the Goddess was worshipped under the tree. After an astrological consultation in 2002 the temple was renovated. Kapperrukavu Bhagavathy Temple Trust was formed for this purpose. This Trust continues more to be responsible for the running of the temple.
