This temple is situated at Malayalapuzha in the
Pathanamthitta district. The temple is believed to be more than 2500 years old.
The legend speaks about two Brahmins of the Atimuttath Madam going on a
pilgrimage. They carried the idol of the Goddess, their family deity for performing
pujas while on the trip. They stayed for some time at the Mookambika Temple at Kolloor.
The Goddess was pleased with the two men and appeared before them and introduced
Her power to the idol that they were carrying with them. As they started back, the
people at various places welcomed them and planned for their stay
more
and worship
of the idol with them. When they reached Malyalapuzha, the prominent families gave
a the all facilities for their stay and pujas. It was then found from
astrological consultations that the Goddess wanted to remain there. The temple
was built in the middle of the five Bhoothaganas of Siva who had accompanied
the Goddess from Kolloor who took the form of five hills. The idol of the
Goddess is unique as it has got all the nerves and blood vessels that are found
in the human body. It is made with Kadusharkara and no ablutions are performed
on this idol.
