Kavil Sree Bhagavathy Temple, located in Kizhakkambalam, Ernakulam district, is believed to be over 1,000 years old. Historically, a site near the present temple was used for executions, giving rise to the name "Kazhukkambalam," which later evolved into "Kizhakkambalam." During a period of hardship for the local people, the ruling authority consulted astrologers, who revealed the divine presence of a Goddess in the area. Consequently, the Goddess was initially consecrated slightly east of the current temple location, following the Koula system of worship. Later, she was enshrined at the present site as Bhadrakali, facing west. The architectural style of the sanctum reflects the temple's ancient heritage. Today, the
more temple is managed by the Devaswom Board.
