Chengal Bhagavathy Temple,
located in Kanjoor Village, about 3 km from Kalady in Ernakulam district,
Kerala, is one of the 108 Durga temples in the state. The temple is dedicated
to Goddess Karthyayani, who is depicted as a fierce forest woman (Kattala
Stree). She holds a conch in one hand and an unidentified weapon in the other,
facing east. The temple's 10-day annual festival culminates with the arattu
ritual on the Uthram nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam.
