Aaralam Adiyeri Madom

History

Aaralam Adiyeri Madom is the chief among the four Madoms established by Parasurama in North Malabar. It is at a distance of 10km from Iritti. It is famous as the place where the Thrimurthis are worshipped in a temple constructed by man and also the place from where Uchitta Bhagavathy took form. The legend about the temple says that Uchitta Bhagavathy (the Goddess who shouted), sister of Lord Krishna, took incarnation here. The Dharmadaivam of Adiyeri is Goddess Durga. Bhairava and the Panchamurthys are consecrated here with importance. Goddess Parvati is consecrated with Lord Siva in the main sanctum. Kuttichathan, Karuval Bhagavathy, Rakthachamundi, Khandakarnan and Thevar Chathan more are consecrated in the second sanctum. Pottan, Kurathy, and Gulikan are consecrated outside the temple. Moovala-Kuzhi Chamundi has been consecrated in a subordinate temple. The popular belief is that the last member of the family did not perform the poojas and so the Madom was left uncared for.  Decades later, local devotees came together to renovate the temple. At one time more than 100 Theyyams used to be present at Adiyeri Madom.
