Arjunanmala Kirathamoorthy Temple

History

This temple is at Koothattukulam, Muvatupuzha Thaluk of Ernakulam district. It is believed to be more than 2000 years old. Legends associate this temple with Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, praying to Lord Siva to get Pashupathaasthra at this place. The original idol consecrated by Arjuna was on this hill. It was here that the Lord appeared as a hunter and blessed Arjuna with the Pashupathaasthra. The temple can be reached by climbing close to 320 steps and passing through the beautiful forest area. There is a Bhadrakali temple as you reach the top. Kirathamoorthy is the main deity consecrated here.  Being a forest area, some more of the Naivedyam offered are also connected with the forest. Honey and different types of tubers are included in it. Nearby is a small pond with the water smelling of sandalwood. The temple is under the Kerala Ullada Maha Sabha.
