Varekadu Sree Kurumba
Bhagavathi Temple is situated along the Cherthala-Arookutty road in Poochakkal,
Alappuzha district, Kerala. Dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi, this temple
showcases traditional Kerala-style architecture, featuring a Chathura Sreekovil
(square sanctum), Kodimaram (flagpole), Nalambalam (inner courtyard), Namaskara
mandapam (prayer hall), and shrines for Upa devatas. A separate shrine, facing
the opposite direction, stands outside the main temple. The temple’s annual
festival is celebrated on Kumbha Bharani (February–March) with unique pujas and
rituals. The festivities include Ezhunellippu (procession), temple art forms,
and grand illuminations. Other significant celebrations include Thrikarthika
and Navratri. A serene temple pond enhances the spiritual ambience of this
sacred site.
