Sree Lakshmi Narayana Temple, dedicated to Lord
Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, is located in Panjal village near Thiruvilwamala in
Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple's sanctum sanctorum features intricate
murals on its outer walls, adding to its artistic and spiritual significance.
Within the Chuttambalam, there is a small pond. The temple is renowned for
hosting significant Vedic rituals. In 2011, it was the site of Athirathram, an
ancient 12-day Vedic ceremony involving elaborate poojas and chanting, believed
to invoke universal harmony. Additionally, the Rig Veda Trisandha was performed
here in 1908 AD. This ritual, which takes nearly seven months to complete,
includes Vedic recitations such as Jada
more
and Ratha. A unique aspect of Rig Veda
Trisandha is the competition between two traditional groups of Rig Vedic
scholars Thrissur Yogam and Thirunavaya Yogam. This competition involves
various Vedic recitations and techniques, such as Jada, Ratha, Varkham, and
Varam, showcasing the deep-rooted Vedic traditions preserved at the temple.
