This temple is at the village Alavil, three km towards Azheekodu from Kannur. The Alavil Puthiyakavu Mariyamman Kovil is situated there. The Kayyalakath Mariyamman Aroodasthana is consecrated here on the northwestern side of the Alavil Kovil on the Elambilan para. Till recently people knew only about the rituals like Karakam charthal and Kulichezhunnallath that were conducted there during the festival at Alavil Kovil. It was on astrological consultations that the presence of Risheeswara Guru there came to be known. Lord Paramswara had appeared with Parvathy Devi before the Rishis who performed penance there. So, devotees worship Guru and the Goddess at this place. It is situated at more a place of great natural beauty. Legend says that the pious elder of the Kadavathpura family had brought the effulgence of the Goddess from another place and consecrated it here. Once a girl belonging to that place became affected by smallpox while she was tending the cattle and fell unconscious there. Her mother came in search of her and finding no water to give her, prayed ardently to the goddess. The Goddess poured water from her hands for the mother to give her daughter and the girl got cured. The Theerthakulam here is full of water throughout the year. Management of the temple and its renovation are under a trust formed by the members of the family and the devotees.
