This
temple is situated at Nethalloor, a small village near Karukachaal. The village
is at the junction of the state highway between Kottayam and Kozhanchery and
the national highway between Kollam and Theni. The Goddess is in the
Mahishaasuramardini form. This is believed to be the place where Arjuna practised
penance during his stay in the forest. The area was the abode of Tamil Brahmins
in the days of yore. It is believed that when invaders came that way the rulers
removed the gold ornaments and the gold flag post and
more
hid them in a pond at
Chiraykkal. Scientific investigations show the presence of these precious
things in the pond even today. The owners of the temple were the family of
Thottappurathu Kurup. Later it was passed on to the Edapallay Thampuran. But no
pujas were performed and the properties that belonged to the temple were lost.
Then the office bearers of the NSS Karayogam No.581 of that area took over the
management of the temple from the Edappally Thampuran. The consecration with a
new idol was performed on 28th Makaram,1123.
