History

Sree Kumaravilasom Temple, located in Aroor at the northern end of Aroor Panchayat in Alappuzha district, Kerala, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murukan (also known as Lord Subrahmanya or Lord Kartikeya). The temple is a significant spiritual and cultural landmark near the Ernakulam-Alappuzha district border. Lord Murukan, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is worshipped as the God of war, victory, wisdom, and spiritual enlightenment. He is often depicted as a youthful deity with six faces and twelve arms, riding a peacock. The temple’s presiding deity, Balamurugan, is believed to be highly powerful, benevolent, and compassionate. The temple complex also more houses several other deities, including Lord Ganesh, Goddess Bhadrakaali, Naga Devatas, and Lord Ayyappa. Additionally, there are separate shrines for the Navagraha Moorthies and Brahma Rakshas. Nagaraja and Nagayakshiyamma are also enshrined within the temple premises. The administration of the temple is managed by A.K.D.S Sree Kumaravilasom Temple and falls under the jurisdiction of the Travancore Devaswom Board. The temple is associated with 18-19 branches. Taipooyam is the main festival celebrated here, marked by vibrant Kavadis and Thalappoli processions. Another significant observance is the Sapthaha, which begins on the 1st of Vrischikam (a Malayalam month). Devotees are drawn to the temple for its serene ambience, religious rituals, and devotional activities, making it a spiritual retreat for worshippers.
