When the work on the Idukki Hydroelectric Project started, those working there felt the need for a temple for the people who had come from different parts of the country to work on the project. The officers of the Kerala State Electricity Board found the effulgence of Dharmashastha on top of a mountain and built a temple there around 50 years ago. The temple is modelled on the famous Sabarimala temple with 18 steps to reach the sanctum. Though many who were working there have left, the temple continues to be important for the people of this area. Sree Maha Ganapathy is consecrated as a
more subordinate deity.
