This temple is at Perumpilly, Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam district It is under the control of the NSS Karayogam. Legend says that long ago, a girl from Maymala mana in Puthuvasserry was married off to Chomatathu madam in Perumpilli. The Bhagavathy worshipped as the family deity was also given to Chomatathu madom as a part of the dowry. Astrological consultations for a suitable place to consecrate the Bhagavaathy showed that she was happy to be on the right side of Perumpillil Vylappilly Krishnan. So, 40 cents of land south of the temple was bought from the Vylappilly Devaswom. A temporary structure was made and the Goddess was more consecrated there. The poojari at the Vylappilly temple was made to perform the poojas here also. As the area on the sides of the temple in those days was patam (fields) it came to be called Patathu Kavu.
