Punnasseriputtu Bhadrakali Temple

History

Located in East Kadungalloor, Ernakulam district, the Punnasseriputtu Bhadrakali Temple is steeped in history and is believed to be over 5,000 years old. It holds a significant place as the original site of the Chattukulam Mahadeva Temple in Kadungalloor. To this day, the Guruthy ritual associated with the Chattukulam Temple festival is conducted here, preserving its traditional connection. Punnasseriputtu Bhadrakali Temple is unique in the area as it is the only temple where the ancient ritual of Mudiyettu is performed. Many temples trace their origins to this sacred site, and over 1,000 families revere it as their family temple. Historically, the temple was situated in the middle more of a field, marked by a sacred tree under which a lamp was kept burning. Only about a decade ago, the temple was rebuilt and given its present structure, ensuring its legacy continues for future generations.
