Sree Shanidev Vedic Ritual Temple, located in Eramathoor Shaneeswara Puram near Mannar, is the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Shaneeswara and the only Vedic temple in the state. In ancient times, Eramathoor was home to many Brahmins and the site of numerous Vedic rituals and yagas. The area, once known as Eramathoor Natakashala, eventually became Naataala. Historical evidence suggests that this region was a centre of Shaiva worship. Much of the temple land originally belonged to a Brahmin family from a nearby village. In an astrological consultation held in 2010, it was revealed that the temple's first chief priest was present in the form of
more a Brahmarakshas. The presence of a Brahmin woman who had been killed there, along with another Rakshas, further attests to the site's deep antiquity and spiritual significance. In addition to Lord Shaneeswara, the temple houses a unique consecration of Mahakala Shaneeswaran. The presiding deity faces south, making this a rare and powerful place of worship. It is the only temple in Kerala where Pithrumukthi and Shanthi Mahaa Havanam are performed for the liberation and peace of ancestors. Additionally, the temple is renowned for conducting Kala Sarppa Dosha Maha Havanam to appease the planetary deities Rahu and Kethu. Several subordinate deities are also enshrined here, including Sri Devaguru Brihaspati, Rahu Deva, Kethu Deva, Siddhi Vinayaka, and Siddha Panchamukhi Hanuman, adding to the temple’s divine aura and spiritual significance.
