Chathan Kaattil Chathu Mooppan,
who established this temple, was an ardent devotee of Lord Ayyappa at
Sabarimala. He used to go to Sabarimala every year. When he became old and
weak, he could not make the pilgrimage. One night he had a dream in which a
voice told him not to come to Sabarimala. It told him that an arrow would be
found where he had to consecrate Lord Ayyappa. Accordingly, the arrow was found
in his compound. He built a temple there and named it Ayyappankavu. There is
the very powerful Khandakarnan Swamy also consecrated in the temple premises.
