Chattukulam Sree Mahadeva Temple, an ancient shrine, is located in Chattukulam near Kadungaloor and Aluva. According to legend, the temple is associated with the Ramayana story of Jatayu, the great bird who fought Ravana to protect Sita. It is believed that the middle part of Jatayu's body fell at Kadungaloor after his defeat. The temple is thought to be over 2,000 years old, with its stone idol serving as evidence of its antiquity. Historically, the temple was surrounded by lush fields and numerous ponds, earning it the name "Chuttukulam," which later evolved into "Chattukulam." For many years, the temple was under the care of a Brahmin
more family. In 1995, a trust was formed to manage the temple, and the present structure was built following astrological consultations. The re-consecration took place in 1998. The idol of Lord Siva, the main deity, stands approximately 5½ feet tall and is seated on a platform 1½ meters wide, adding to the grandeur of this historic temple.
