Parakkat Devi Temple, located on Parakkat Side Lane off Chembumukku Road in Kakkanad, Ernakulam district, is believed to be around 850 years old. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali as the main deity. In ancient times, the temple featured a Kavu, a sacred grove where rituals for serpents were performed. Initially, it was a Kalari temple managed by a family, with a small tiled room housing the deity. About 40 years ago, the temple was handed over to the SNDP Yogam, and the current structure was completed with reconstruction and re-consecration in 1985. A unique practice here involves offering prayers before a photograph of Sree Narayana
more Guru at the beginning of any ritual. Subordinate deities at the temple include Ganapathy, Subrahmanyan, Narasimhamoorthy, Khandakarnan, serpents, and Chathanswami. Daily rituals include Kalasham, and the Guruthy ritual is performed every Tuesday.
