Sree Subrahmanya Durga Temple Kumarapuram

History

Kumarapuram Sree Subrahmanya-Durga Temple, originally a family temple for centuries, was known as Sree Viswanatheswara Temple until 1990. Following astrological consultations, it was decided to consecrate Sree Subrahmanya and Durga Devi along with subordinate deities. This re-consecration was completed in July 2006. The annual festival is celebrated in the month of Kumbham, and the re-consecration day is observed in Midhunam. Sree Subrahmanya is enshrined as Kumara, revered as the deity of ancient Siddha Vaidyas and astrologers. Durga Devi is consecrated in her gentle form. In front of the main sancta, Hidumbna Swamy, the commander of Subrahmanya Swamy, is enshrined as the temple's protector, and devotees are believed to more worship him before entering the other sanctums. Additional subordinate deities include Ganapathy, Shastha, Bhadrakali, Valiya Muthappan, Hanuman, and the Nagas.
