Located in Kumarapuram near Kizhakkambalam, the
Kumarapuram Subrahmanya Swamy Temple has a rich history. The temple and the
surrounding land originally belonged to a Brahmin family. After the family had
no surviving members, the property was taken over by the king and later handed
to a local chieftain of the Araykkal family. When they too left, the temple's
care was entrusted to a few Brahmin families, from whom the current management
inherited responsibility. The temple has its roots in a nearby Vishnu temple,
where Sree Subrahmanya Swamy was consecrated. In 1968, the temple was taken
over by the Travancore Devaswom Board, and reconstruction of the
more
Subrahmanya
Swamy and Ganapathy temples was completed the same year. Today, the temple
conducts two daily pujas and celebrates Shashti and Thaipooyam with great
enthusiasm.
