Poonithura Sree Subrahmanya
Temple, located in Poonithura, Ernakulam, is a Hindu temple with a history
spanning approximately 120 years. It holds cultural and spiritual significance
in the region and shares historical connections with the nearby Sree
Poornathrayeesa Temple and the Poonithura Kottaram Sree Krishna Swami Temple.
According to local folklore, the temple's history intertwines with an
intriguing legend involving Arjuna and Krishna. They sought Lord Ganesha's help
to identify a suitable location to consecrate an idol of Lord Vishnu. Lord
Ganesha selected Poorna Veda Puri, now known as Tripunithura. When Arjuna
arrived, he found Lord Ganesha seated at the spot intended for the idol. In a
moment of
more
frustration, Arjuna kicked Lord Ganesha, who then turned southward,
allowing Arjuna to place the idol. Interestingly, this is the only temple where
Lord Ganesha is positioned facing south, adding to its uniqueness and allure.
Poonithura Sree Subrahmanya Temple remains a cherished place of worship,
attracting devotees and preserving its rich cultural heritage.
