Navagraha Temple Brahmana Samooham

History

Ambalapuzha Brahmana Samooham serves as a sacred gathering place for the local Brahmin community, hosting various religious and cultural occasions. The Samooha Madom houses a sanctum sanctorum dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, where regular worship takes place. This Samooha Madom is one of the oldest in Kerala, holding a rich history and the blessings of many revered personalities over the years. Even today, poojas and feasts are conducted with great reverence and tradition. The community, which traces its roots to Tamil Nadu, continues to uphold Tamil culture, festivals, and rituals. Annual celebrations such as Sree Rama Navami and Shastapreeti are key highlights, along with Brahmana Bhojanam, traditional communal more meals offered within the community. A distinctive feature of this sacred space is its Navagraha (Nine Planets) shrine located at the entrance, which is open to people from all communities, fostering inclusivity. Although the community's size has diminished from over 100 families to around 40, the Brahmana Samooham remains a historic and culturally significant institution, preserving its traditional values and practices with dignity.
