Kalavamkodam Saktheeswaran Temple, also known as the Ardhanarishvara Temple, is in Vayalar, Alappuzha district, Kerala. This temple is uniquely distinguished for its pratishta (consecration), featuring the words OM Shanti etched into a mirror instead of a traditional deity idol. The revered Sree Narayana Guru consecrated Temple. According to local history, the shrine was originally intended to enshrine Lord Siva as Ardhanarishvara, a form symbolizing the unity of Siva and Shakti. However, as the consecration ceremony approached, a group of people opposed the installation of a traditional murti (idol). Responding to the situation, Sree Narayana Guru requested a mirror and instructed that OM Shanti be inscribed on it
more by removing the silica layer. During the process, a small error occurred, with OM being inscribed without a sound. The Guru, smiling, acknowledged the variation as equally correct and proceeded to consecrate the mirror as the temple's central pratishta. Today, this distinctive shrine stands as a symbol of peace, spirituality, and inclusivity, attracting devotees who come to reflect on the profound teachings of Sree Narayana Guru.
