History

Vettoor Maha Vishnu Temple is in Vettoor, near Konni in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. This ancient shrine, dedicated to Bhagavan Vishnu, is located on the serene banks of the Achankovil River, offering a tranquil setting for worship. The temple features a traditional Chathura Sreekovil (square sanctum), a Namaskara mandapam (prayer hall), Upa devata shrines (dedicated to subsidiary deities), and a Chuttambalam (outer structure surrounding the sanctum). A significant highlight of the temple is the Bali rituals conducted during the Karkidaka Masam (the Malayalam month of Karkidakam), which draws thousands of devotees. The annual festival is celebrated with grandeur, featuring various Vaishnava pujas, rituals, traditional Kerala temple more art forms, music, and folk performances, creating a vibrant cultural and spiritual experience. The Travancore Devaswom Board manages the temple, ensuring its preservation and the smooth conduct of rituals and festivities.
