This temple is at a three-acre compound at Chiyyaram near Thrissur. The temple is believed to be centuries old though no authentic documents are available. Chamundi Devi is the main deity consecrated here. It has the Saptha Mathru consecration that is very rarely seen in Kerala. Such consecration is seen only in Kodungaloor Devi temple and Thirumandhaamkunnu temple. The consecration style, ‘Rurujith’ also is different from the one seen commonly in Kerala. The fierce goddess is consecrated here in the gentle form. The Goddess is consecrated as she appeared before the Devas after annihilating the Asura named Ruru. The idol is shown seated on a bed-jewelled
more throne with the right leg bent and the left leg straight, with weapons in the four hands. A jewelled crown adorns her head. Her appearance is slightly fierce. The temple was under the Panamukk Maliyekkal family who were feudal landlords under the King of Kochi. Once the feudal system deteriorated, the temple also fell into troubled times. The N.S.S. Karayogam, Chiyyaram was appointed as the trustee for managing the temple and it is working well with the support of the devotees. It is said that the temple was once at Ollur and the Maliyekkal family brought it to Chiyyaram for some unknown reason. It is said to have been a huge structure with gateways at the four sides. The temple has been rebuilt many times.
