Mattil Sastha Temple, located approximately 2 km southwest of Varandarappilly along the Amballur–Varandarappilly road in Thrissur district, Kerala, is a revered place of worship with deep historical and spiritual significance. This ancient temple, also known earlier as Malamoottil Sastha, is one of the 108 Ayyappa temples in Kerala. It holds a unique historical position, as Mattil Sastha was the Upasana murti (worship deity) of the Changaram Kotha Karthas. Another belief suggests that the deity was a Kalari Devata (guardian deity of traditional martial arts training centres). Temple also actively participates in the renowned Arattupuzha Pooram, adding to its cultural and spiritual prominence. Mattil Sastha Temple continues to attract more devotees, preserving its legacy as a sacred centre of devotion and tradition.
