Sree Agastya Temple, located in Kureekad, Ernakulam district, is a unique spiritual destination renowned for emphasising Vedic wisdom and healing traditions. The temple complex, named "Agasthyasram," comprises 13 smaller shrines dedicated to revered saints and sages, with the central shrine honouring Maha Yogi Agasthyar, the timeless Guru of Gurus. His Holiness Sree Sudheer Guru once remarked, "All sciences, including Siddha and Ayurveda medicine, have come to us from our great Vedic teachers, but we have not built any temples for them. The present and future generations need a place where they can seek the blessings of these great souls, or at least have some notion of what
more they did." This profound insight inspired the creation of this temple complex as a tribute to the great Vedic sages. The rituals performed here are as distinctive as the temple itself. Instead of the traditional anointments of milk and ghee, the idols are anointed with medicinal plant juices. Garlands made of grasses, seeds, and leaves from medicinal plants further enhance the sanctity of the rituals. Even the prasadam offered to devotees is thoughtfully crafted—healthful herbs replace sugary sweets, reflecting the temple’s focus on holistic well-being. The architecture of the complex symbolizes the famed Vedic scene "Naimisharanyam," where sages gathered in a spiritual conclave for the betterment of humanity. As devotees enter through the southern gateway, they are greeted by Lord Shiva in the form of Dakshinamurti, enshrined in the north. To the east and west are two parallel rows of six shrines each, dedicated to eminent Vedic healers, saints, and sages, including Maha Yogi Sree Agasthyar, Lopamudra Devi, Oushada Ganapathy, Dhanvantari Maharishi, Jnana Murugan, Markandeya, Bharadwaja Maharishi, Atri Maharishi, Anasuya Devi, Saubhagya Mahalakshmi, Bhrigu Maharishi, Arundhati Devi, Vasishta Maharishi, and Narada Maharishi. An extraordinary feature of Agasthyasram is the weekly Mulichar offering—fresh herbal medicinal juice provided every Friday morning. This ritual particularly benefits those seeking to revitalize their immune systems, aligning with the temple's focus on physical and spiritual healing. Sree Agastya Temple stands as a remarkable fusion of spiritual devotion, Vedic heritage, and traditional medicine, providing a sacred space for reflection, rejuvenation, and connection to the timeless wisdom of the great sages.
